Diano Marina, being a modern and renowned tourist seaside town, has new treasures to discover. They are hidden behind the scene of its long flower carpeted seaside promenade, behind its elegant and comfortable, behind its wide clean sandy beaches, its tourist port, locals, shops and restaurants.

History tells us that right in the plane of Dianese Gulf, was the passage of the most important Roman road to France and Provence, the Via Julia Augusta, built in year 13 B.C. under the Roman Emperor Ottaviano Augustus.

After the earthquake in 1887, Diano Marina was rebuilt as a modern town; many discoveries of iron age, Roman, and medieval, was found. In the Town Hall we can admire the “dolia”, big terracotta jars used to transport wine, by sea, from Spain to Italy; they were found together with the rests of a Roman ship, sunk in the first century A.D. a few kms. away from the coast of Diano Marina.

Villa Ardissone, the residence known as “Palazzo del Parco”, hosts the Civic Museum (with many archaeological discoveries and historical memories of Andrea Rossi, born in Diano Marina and pilot of the ship expedition: “Mille”, the thousand soldiers of Giuseppe Garibaldi), the Civic Library and a room for exhibitors.

Dianese Carnival: the Sunday following shove Tuesday, a shining and colourful parade of allegorical carts in machÈ, decorated with the beautiful flowers of the Gulf of Diana.

Infiorata of the Corpus Domini: started 40 years ago on a Sunday morning in June to celebrate the Holy Eucharist; the inhabitants of Diano, guided by the Dianese artist Paolo Scati, create during the previous night, carpets of flower petals along the central streets, a rainbow of vivid natural colours.

Basil festival: every year in the middle of May, an event to celebrate the commercial and tourist importance of the basil cultivated in the Gulf of Diana; two days to let you know not only about this plant and its numerous virtues, but also olive oil, honey, herbs, wine, cheese and many other specialties, thanks to the Salon for the Typical Liguria Product; stands are set up (Liguria, Mediterranean, Herbs, Children....) such as meetings, promotions, the assignment of the quality brand “Pesto Genovese di Qualit‡” for genuine pesto sauce from Genova, and a cooking competition for children.

Celebrations to honour the Madonna del Carmine: to honour the patron Saint of the town. In July, religious events and processions, (one is underwater, with divers) are celebrated with musical bands and fabulous fireworks on sea.

children's world: the children's world, a wide permanent area dedicated to infants and children, with a lot of games and activities for their fun.


August Parade: in August, a parade of carts covered with flowers along the streets, with beautiful girls throwing cascades of flowers upon dancing people.

Via del Sale: international non-competitive race for enduro motorcycles.

Vascup: in August, a fun race of bathtubs, with prizes and awards for all the competitors.

Valle Dianese Produce: in July, expo-meeting of all the wine and food production in the Gulf of Diana, with producers, plants, flowers.

Turista Protagonista: tonight the tourist is protagonist! If you can dance, sing, imitate, and so on, this is your chance to exhibit live on stage! Held on many evenings in July and August, with a great final show to elect the king of the summer! Gianni Rossi presents this open air live show, started in 2002 and already a sell out every night.

Dianese Politeama Theatre: a reference for cultural and artistic appointments in Western Liguria. First vision movies the whole year long, the cineforum film club from January to May, and autumn, a theatre season of high level dramas and comedies, to entertain the public.
